We are delighted to announce that Dr Sonia Hoque has won the 'SoGE Engagement and Impact Award 2025' in recognition of the achievements of the 'SafePani' model for safe and reliable drinking water for schools and healthcare facilities in Bangladesh.
This recognition is the result of long-term collaboration between the SafePani Oxford team (Katrina Charles, Rob Hope and Sonia Hoque), Md Monirul Alam at UNICEF, Nurul Osman at HYSAWA, and the Government of Bangladesh, which began under the REACH Water Security programme.
Sonia’s work on institutional and financial challenges in Bangladesh's rural water sector has provided the empirical evidence and built an investment case for scaling up the SafePani model with government co-funding from 2025 to 2030 for 1,174 schools and community clinics in Khulna district.
